Barajas Plan (Madrid) 2000/2007

Barajas (Madrid) airport is the first in the country and one of the greatest in the world. Barajas concentrate most of the traffic between Europe and Latin America –almost 25% of the non-stop flights–. More than one hundred airlines operate on it. Because of the increase in number of flights and passengers, the present facilities are not enough anymore. That's why the authorities of the airport are building a new terminal that it's almost done. The new facilities include also two runaways of 3.500 meters each, a control tower, and all the services that the new facilities need. The new facilities will be working in January 2006 and will be able the process more than 10.000 passengers in the peak hours, totalizing an annual traffic of 70 million passengers with more that 120 flying operations per hour (take off and landing).

Barcelona Plan (Catalunya) 2000/2007

The goal is to expand its airport, “El Prat”, in order to transform it in an international hub as well as a interchange place for the regional or domestic traffic. The new airport will be able to process 40 million passengers per year with a capacity of more than 90 operations per hour during the peak hour. There is already a new runaway, called 07R/25L, in use and a new control tower is almost finished. A new terminal is being built with all the services needed, as parkings,

To be able to respond to the expected demand with the efficiency and the quality levels required, the Plan for the Santander airport, approved in July 2000, includes important works to expand and reform the present airport. Those works has been on going during the last years to modernize the facilities and infrastructures. In 1999 the control tower was reformed to adequate it the the new needs of the air control. And in 2000 the terminal underwent a big transformation. As consequence, we have today a new and modern building really comfortable for air passengers.

Besides, the Plan foresees the installation of two telescopic fingers and increasing the terminal in more than 1000 square meters , the installation of a new approach system (ILS Category II/III) which will allow the airport to operate in severe weather conditions and the installation of shelters and control systems for the parking.
